Thermal transfer online multilane top web printing

ROTECH SUPPLY FAST MULTI-LANE PRINTER IN RECORD TIME AT TRANSPACK
Thermal transfer, online multilane top web printing

Rotech machines have installed a Bell-Mark multi-lane Thermal Transfer printer at leading medical device producer, Transpack Medical in Blackburn, who were looking to improve two areas of their overprinting operation. Firstly, they wanted to have a printer that would in no way limit the speed of their Tiromat Thermoforming machine and, secondly, they wanted a device capable of printing all the information they wanted directly onto the top web and so save the hand-application of labels.

The unit supplied by Rotech comfortably met both these requirements, as it was able to print the entire width of a 300mm wide web well before the Tiromat needed to advance the paper. Furthermore, equipped with a 128mm wide printhead, the Bell-Mark printer was able to print everything that had previously been on a label.

First-class print quality was achieved by use of a ribbon grade that Rotech had specifically selected for its superior performance at high speeds on Tyvek and other medical papers. Pantone colours can also be matched if a specific corporate shade is required.

Speaking of their new acquisition, Andrew Micklethwaite, the Managing Director at Transpack, comments:
We are enjoying significant benefits with the new printer. We have no restriction on the speed at which we can run the Thermoformer and are able to produce a far higher quality of print than previously. Furthermore, by installing the Bell-Mark printer driver, we are able to carry-on using our existing formats and design software with no need for re-training or conversion. We were particularly pleased that Rotech were able to install the unit within two weeks of our placing the order

The unit supplied by Rotech can print any number of lanes of print onto almost any width of packaging material. By traversing only those parts of the printer that are needed - namely the printhead and ribbon transverse mechanism - weight is kept to a minimum, so fast print and return speeds can be achieved. Such printers are used throughout the world by the Medical Device, Pharmaceutical and Food Packaging industries.
